Events & Health Education
Throughout the year at The Village at Victory Lakes, many different
special events are offered to the residents, as well as to those residing
outside the community. One week might feature a senior exercise program
and the next might feature a guest speaker sharing his or her expertise
regarding hip and knee replacement. Then, later in the month, there
might be a holiday barbeque with live music, a choir performance
in the chapel or any of the the other countless other fun, relaxing
and educational events that are regularly scheduled at The Village
at Victory Lakes.
In addition, we believe that seniors can benefit greatly by learning
more about the benefits of exercise, positive aging and other health-related
matters. That's why we will use this valuable space to share important
health education with you.

The Alzheimer's Project
The Village at Victory Lakes
Saturday January 21 & 28 11a.m.
HBO’s “The Alzheimer’s Project” takes a personal look at the faces behind Alzheimer’s disease, and the forces leading us to find a cure. If you’re a caregiver for someone with this illness, you know too well the debilitating physical and emotional consequences of this disease. You’re invited to join the Alzheimer’s Association and Victory Lakes as their experts present a two-day seminar featuring discussion surrounding the HBO program on Saturday, January 21 and Saturday, January 28 at 11a.m.
Session one features a 90-minute documentary called “The Memory Loss Tapes,” which captures the experience of memory loss from the point of view of the person living with the disease. You will break for a light lunch buffet and then the 30-minute HBO tape, “Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am?” will be featured. Maria Shriver, whose father was diagnosed with the disease, provides commentary and guidance through five insightful lessons.
Session two on January 28 features “Momentum in Science,” which details the current explosion of knowledge within the scientific and medical communities, two years in making. You’ll break for lunch and return to view “Caregivers,” a one-hour collection of five family portraits that highlight the sacrifices, struggles and successes made by those experiencing their loved ones’ descent into dementia.
Though there is no charge for this program, registration is required. Please call Jan Castillo at (847) 356-4665 or send an email to jcastillo@franciscancommunities.com to confirm your registration. Please note: if you are a caregiver please make arrangements for your loved one with dementia to receive outside care during these sessions. The themes are emotionally complex and not recommended for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
