Franciscan Communities Acquires Lindenhurst-based Senior Living Community

Homewood, Ill. – Looking to further the mission and vision of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago to provide high quality senior services, Franciscan Communities has acquired The Village at Victory Lakes, a Lindenhurst-based senior living community, from Victory Health Services.

The transfer of ownership includes all service lines of The Village at Victory Lakes. The continuing care retirement community offers prairie-style garden homes and apartments for independent living, assisted living apartments and Medicare-certified skilled nursing.

“We are excited to be joining the Franciscan Communities family,” said Mary Riggs, executive director for The Village at Victory Lakes. “Franciscan Communities through the guidance of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago is well-respected and has a reputation for providing care that helps enhance the quality of life for those they serve.”

The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago were established in 1894 when Josephine Dudzik – later known as Mother Mary Theresa – a young Polish immigrant, came to Chicago and was moved to action by the great need she saw among the city’s aged, infirm and poor.

Franciscan Communities is a division of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corporation, which is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago. Offering independent and assisted living, skilled nursing and Alzheimer’s care, Franciscan Communities was recently ranked among the 10 fastest growing senior health and housing system in the nation in 2005 by Ziegler Capital Markets Group, which monitors the senior living industry. This ranking comes against the nation’s largest multi-state senior service systems.

“The addition of The Village at Victory Lakes makes Franciscan Communities an even stronger provider of senior living services and particularly positions us to serve the needs of seniors in northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin,” said Leonard Wychocki, president and CEO for FSCSC. “It is a beautiful campus with dedicated associates known for providing high quality and compassionate services to seniors.”

This acquisition brings the total to 16 senior living communities that Franciscan Communities operates in Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, Ohio and Illinois. That includes Illinois-based communities Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, Franciscan Village in Lemont, St. James Manor and Villas in Crete, St. Joseph Village of Chicago and The Clare at Water Tower (under construction), both in Chicago, and Marian Village in Homer Glen. Franciscan Communities also provides home and community-based health services in Indiana and a shelter for women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence in Indiana.
